Lyuben Farzulev is showing his latest artworks alongside those of 11 artists—friends, colleagues or simply followers of the artist. According to him, ‘the cohesion of the exposition is the manifested individuality of the artists, their contagious talent’. The invitees themselves determine what to exhibit, with attention focused on their last or unshown works, including sculpture, painting, drawings, and video art.

Lyuben Farzulev is famous for his ‘wooden machines’ from the late 1980s and large-scale textile installations in the public space. The exhibition will show the milieu of the development of the artist, himself capable of creating a context that provokes new perspectives on his own work.

The focus is on various aspects of the roles in which the contemporary artist enters, not only as an artist, but also as a curator. Lyuben Farzulev refuses to call himself ‘a curator’, saying: ‘The exhibition has no theme, direction, curator… Everyone is free to show what they consider necessary. Why? It is quite obvious—to introduce some variety. So that I don’t bore the public. I could easily fill such a small gallery on my own. That, I can do. And so what! It would be boring for me then. Like this, along with eleven other quality artists, it would be ‘cool’ (as they say nowadays). I borrowed the idea from our pop singers (‘concert by a singer and friends’). Each one performs a few hits. Good, not tiring, but it is variegated.’
