Works of art from the collection of National Gallery of Bulgaria

The thematic connection between the individual works is a focus on the surrounding environment and the place occupied by modern, contemporary man: the role and importance of cultural heritage in today’s society.
Some of these artists use historical and religious references, biblical themes and quotations to provide a commentary on our cultural heritage; they exploit reminiscences of familiar scenes and images of the past. Others explore our recent socialist past and the significance of the numerous architectural monuments of that time—whether forming part of Bulgaria’s cultural heritage, or neglected and even destroyed.
